Emerald shines with space to spread out in

Shane Homes’ show home in new Glacier Ridge community is a two-storey, four-bedroom design.

While some kitchens can feel one-dimensional, others have the space and design considerations to support one’s ability to both work and play.

This multi-functional quality contributes to the convenience and versatility of the Emerald. Measuring 2,391 square feet, this front-drive single-family model by Shane Homes is displayed as a show home in the community of Glacier Ridge. It has four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.

Its kitchen is L-shaped and centrally located. Both the island and counters combine for a substantial level of surface area for meal preparation.

Not only is there more than enough room to spread out ingredients, its space and design accommodates multiple cooks chopping, dicing, seasoning and the like.

Cabinets on both walls and at the base of the island, in addition to a considerable walk-through pantry, give the kitchen a high degree of storage. This limits the chances of clutter.

The pantry links to the mud room, proving a direct path for hauling in bags of groceries after a trip to the super market.

The kitchen is shown with stainless steel appliances, including a fridge with french doors and wall oven.

There’s substantial space between the island, which has an eating bar that seats at least three people, and the kitchen walls. This setup is easier for guests to gather and circulate through the space without crossing paths.

To further support the role of host, adjacent to the kitchen is a walk-up bar. It’s to imagine guests refilling their drinks at this bar and taking a seat at the island.

The kitchen is part of an open-concept design that provides connection to a rear-facing dining area and great room.

The segment of wall in the great room boxes out further than that of the dining area, elevating the architectural interest of the space. In the great room, a box-shaped fireplace surrounded in tile is the focal point.

Continuing the versatility of the home is a space dubbed the lifestyle room. It is positioned just off foyer and closed off by sliding double doors. The natural inclination is to make this a home office, but it can flex to virtually any purpose.

At the foyer, preferences around privacy are covered. Its design restricts views of the rest of the main floor, which can be valuable when receiving deliveries at the door.

On the second floor, a central bonus room creates a winged effect. All three secondary bedrooms are on one side and the master bedroom is on the other.

Two of the secondary bedrooms are eight feet nine inches by 12 feet six inches and have a walk-in closet. This end of the second floor also includes a laundry room with a front-load washer and dryer.

The master bedroom reaches 12 feet 11 inches by 14 feet eight inches in one area and 18 feet six inches in another. Its ensuite is upscale, with dual sinks, a deep soaker tub and elegant glass-encased shower.

Glacier Ridge is located just north of 144th Avenue N.W. in Calgary’s Symons Valley corridor. This puts residents within a quick drive to an array of shopping and dining amenities, including Creekside Shopping Centre.
